Kerry have lost their Lidl Ladies National Football League Final.
Meath it is who are promoted after winning the Division 2 decider by 2-16 to 1-9.
Meath opened the scoring with a point after just 2 minutes. The advantage was quickly doubled, then trebled. It was soon 4 nil with less than 6 minutes gone. Kerry then put over their first score, courtesy of Anna Galvin. However, Meath remained on top and extend the gap back up to 4. A Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh free cut the deficit once more. Kerry suffered a blow in the 13th minute as Emma Dineen was sin binned for a high challenge. Kerry were not able to maintain possession and were also not helped by a stiff breeze. Come the water break the Kingdom were down by 7 points to 3. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh’s 3rd point of the game made it a 3 point game. The same player put over another free 11 minutes from half time. The Kingdom now trailed by 7 points to 5 and were establishing a stronger foothold in the game. Meath carved Kerry open 3 minutes from half-time for the first goal of the game
A Meath point followed and Kerry were now 6 points down at 1-8 to 0-5. Meath led at half-time by 1-9 to 5 points.
Meath had the better of the exchanges in the opening ten minutes of the second half, a goal from a penalty extending their advantage at 2-12 to 0-6
At the water break Kerry were down by 2-14 to 0-8. Rachel Dwyer got a consolation goal for Kerry 6 minutes from time.
Kerry attention will now switch to the Championship.
