Group 1
Moyvane 1-10 Asdee 0-10
Despite both teams having exited the competition they served up a most entertaining encounter at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday. Certainly going on recent clashes there was never much between the sides with probably honours even and on this occasion it was more of the same. This time round Moyvane edged out their great rivals despite a stirring second half display by Asdee. It was Moyvane who just about deserved their victory overall. Moyvanes star contributer Eamon Flaherty won the throw=in soloed his way to the 20 metre line and split the uprights inside 20 seconds. However Asdee were quick to respond when wing back Mike Breen levelled the contest. Colin Enright and Darragh Keane swopped points before Asdee were reduced to 14 when they lost a player to a black card. Asdee had to work harder and points from Shane Stack and Man of the Match Micheal Fogarty saw them lead 0-4 to 0-2. Darragh Keane cut the deficit to a point in the 25th minute but the Newsandes men finished the half in style with Eamon Flaherty pointing and the in form Micheal Fogarty billowing the net to leave the half time score; Moyvane 1-6 Asdee0-3.

It was now an uphill battle for Asdee and they needed to up their game 100% and even though Micheal Fogarty and Shane Stack increased Moyvanes lead to 1-8 to 0-3 the Shannonsiders got stuck in. Inspired by a super performance from Eoin Kennedy, who roamed the field, along with Darragh Keane, Darran Russell and Paul O Carroll, they hit 5pts in a row to narrow the gap to a 2pt margin as we approached the full time whistle with points from Paul O Carroll, Darragh Keane and Darren Russell. Try as they did they could never get in for the score that would have given them victory and deep into injury time midfielder Tadhg McEvoy secured the win for his team with an excellent point. Once again Asdees biggest problem is to put scores on the board which has cost them on numerous occasions and been the difference between victory and defeat. As already stated Moyvane are a fine young side with plenty of talented footballers; in Martin Stack, Jer Clancy, Liam Greaney, Shane Stack along those already mentioned, and they deserved the win. Asdee now go into the Novice County Championship which is a competition they could very well be successful and they will be relying on Kieran Kelly, Darragh Keane, Eoin Kennedy, Darren Russell, Martin Collins,Eoin Tydings amongst others.

Duagh 0-10 Reenard 2-15

Renard started the game with an attack straight from the throw in with Eoghan McCrohan scoring the first point of the game after good defending by Duagh, with both Kevin Curran and Conor
O’Leary getting their attempts blocked. Renard worked well as a team to set up Conor O’Leary for the second point of the game. Duagh replied with their first attack of the game but Dan O’Donoghue sent the free wide of the posts. Straight from Pa McGill’s kickout Renard went on the attack again and Sean Teahan shot from a long distance out and from a difficult angle to score a point for Renard. During the next few minutes Duagh went on the attack again but the Renard defence stood firm and ensured the ball went wide. In the 12 th minute Duagh attacked again but great defence by Alan Curran broke down the attack and set up the Renard forwards who were fouled and Kevin
Curran pointed the resulting free. Brian Sugrue broke the ball down to Eoghan McCrohan, from Donal Scanlon’s kickout, and Brian added a further point for Renard after good passing between himself and Eoghan. Renard collected Donal Scanlon’s kickout again and set up Conor O’Leary who shot for goal but his shot was blocked on the goalline and Jim Sugrue collected the rebound but unfortunately he sent the ball just wide of the post. Duagh responded with another attack with Ted Moloney in on goal but great defending by Brian Sugrue stopped the attack and turned the ball over for a Renard attack. As Brian was working the ball out from the Renard defence he was fouled and this free set up the Renard forwards which resulted in Kevin Curran adding a point for Renard from a long distance out. Duagh never gave up and went on another attack and worked the ball
well around the field to set up Jason Carmody who scored a point. This was followed by another Jason Carmody point from a free in the 18 th minute. Renard collected Pa McGill’s kickout and Rob Wharton went on a run down the field before being fouled. Rob Wharton passed the ball perfectly into Kevin Curran right in front of the Duagh goal and even though Kevin was surrounded he managed to slip the ball nicely to Sean Teahan who slotted the ball into the back of the
Duagh net for the first goal of the game. This was followed by a Renard wide from Sean O’Connor before Aaron O’Connor went on a great solo run for Duagh and along with the rest of his teammates he got the ball into a suitable position and popped the ball neatly over the bar to add another point for Duagh. Renard replied with two wides from Conor O’Leary and Robert Wharton during the next two minutes. In the 25 th minute Duagh went on the attack once again but as always the Renard defence stood strong to the challenge and great defending by Brian Sugrue and Cian O’Leary cleared the Duagh threat. From this good defending Renard worked the ball well up the field between Cian O’Leary, Rob Wharton and Eoghan McCrohan, who made a great run towards the Duagh goal, before passing it nicely to Sean Teahan who added a further point for Renard. In the 28 th minute Anthony Maher made a strong powerful run through the Renard defence and pointed for Duagh. This was followed by a pointed free from Jason Carmody for Duagh after a slight lack of communication from Renard. This ended the first – half on a scoreline of Renard: 1 – 07 Duagh: 0 – 05.

Renard started the second – half with an attack which resulted in Jim Sugrue pointing a 45. Eoghan McCrohan made a good run in towards the Duagh goal before being fouled but Kevin Curran was on hand to point the resulting free. Rob Wharton added Renard’s third point of the half after Sean O’Connor did very well to turn the ball over and sent Renard on another attack. Duagh responded with a pointed free from Jason Carmody in the 36 th minute. Rob Warton sent the ball wide before Renard got another goal chance through Eoghan McCrohan which was defended very well by the Duagh defence before Ronan Quinlan, Eoghan McCrohan and Robert Wharton worked the ball between them to set up Robert Wharton to score another point for Renard. Duagh attacked once again but unfortunately for them Jack Dillon sent the ball wide in the 39 th minute. In the 42 nd minute Sean Teahan was fouled while shooting and he took the free quickly but luckily for Duagh Donal Scanlon was alert and tipped the ball over the bar instead of under. Duagh responded with Jack Dillon almost in on goal but great pressure by Cian O’Leary ensured he didn’t score a goal but was fouled instead. Jason Carmody pointed the resulting free. Donagh Quinlan pointed a free at the other end for Renard in the 44 th minute. Renard collected the Duagh kickout and passed the ball perfectly between the forwards before finding Sean Teahan who managed to get onto the end of the
chain to fist the ball into the back of the Duagh net. In the 47 th minute Rob Wharton found Sean Teahan with a perfect pass once again but as Sean was about to fire the ball over the bar he was fouled, and Kevin Curran was once again on hand to point the resulting free. In the 49 th minute Denis O’Keeffe scored a great point for Duagh from a long distance out. This was followed by another Renard attack with Liam Sugrue shooting for a point but while his shot dropped short it
found Sean Teahan who popped it over the bar. During the next few minutes Renard put the Duagh forwards under immense pressure which resulted in Ted Moloney and Tom McNamara sending the ball wide. Jason Carmody collected Pa McGill’s kickout and after being fouled, he pointed the resulting free. He added another point from a free in the 57 th minute, which was the last score of the game.

Group 2
Scartaglin 2-7 Beale 0-13

A pulsating 60 minutes of superb football that saw both clubs battle it out for the very important points on offer and when an excellent Match Referee, Eddie Walsh blew the final whistle the teams couldn’t be separated. Certainly this game had everything; superb fielding, great, end to end play some delightful scores from long range; two sending off in the second half; (1 from each side); penalty miss, level on 5 occasions and never more than 3 points separating the teams at any stage and approaching the final whistle both teams had opportunities of snatching the winner. However in fairness to both teams neither deserved to loose.Glorious sunshine greeted Scartaglen and Beale in Duagh on Saturday night for their crunch Junior Championship clash. Eddie Horan opened the scoring for Scart with the first of his three points on the day. However, Beale soon settled and were the dominant team for most of the first half. Daragh Buckley and Cormac Linnane were constant threats in the corner forward positions and contributed 9 points between them in total. Paul Collins was a star at number 2 and when danger threatened near the finish he was there to evert the danger. Scart had the chance to level the game before half time when Substitute Mike Horan was hauled down in the square but Shay Walsh’s penalty drifted wide via the outside of the post. Half time: Scartaglen 0-4 Beale 0-7

Scart adopted a running game in the second half and consistently attacked the heart of the Beale defence. Josh Kerin broke through to level the game with a fine goal after 35mins. Daragh Buckley and Killian Walsh O’Boyle responded with excellent points for Beale. Josh Kerin drove for goal again and this time fed Seán Horan who calmly stroked the ball to the corner of the net. Now as we approached the remaining minutes it was tit for tat with play swinging from end to end and once again Beale reacted to the concession of a goal by scoring the next two points; It looked like it was to their day However, Shay Walsh atoned for his earlier penalty miss by slotting the final two points of the game and ensuring the spoils were shared.
Best for Scart on the day were Josh Kerin, Seán Horan and Ger O’Connor at full back.

Best for Beale were Darragh Buckley (man of the match), Cormac Linnane; Paul Collins and Fionnán Toomey.

Group 4

Tarbert 2-14 Castlegregory 3-10
Tarbert maintained their 100 per cent record with their second successive one-point victory, this time over Castlegregory, in a thrilling, pulsating, end-to-end encounter at a beautifully sunny Churchill on Saturday evening. Despite being on the receiving end of a narrow defeat, Castlegregory have also done enough to advance to the quarter-finals, so both management teams will have been fairly satisfied with what they witnessed in such a thrilling spectacle. Even though Cillian Langan gave Tarbert an early lead, it was the West Kerry men who struck for the opening goal when a turnover in the winners’ defence ended with Castlegregory raising their first green flag. However, Tarbert soon drew level again, and with Finbarr Carrig and Andrew Doherty causing havoc in the inside forward line, they soon found the net themselves when Doherty’s free came back off the post and the opportunistic Carrig reacted quickest to bury the rebound. With the Castlegregory goalkeeper struggling badly as Tarbert pressed his kick-outs relentlessly, one such interception from Doherty instigated a move that saw Carrig set up Kieran Denihan for a fine finish, and with Paddy Callaghan and Brian Heaphy also getting on the scoreboard, the North Kerry side moved into a 2-8 to 1-4 lead.
Castlegregory were far from finished, however, and there was no chance of them retreating into their shell. Indeed, they turned the game on its head in great style with an unanswered burst of 2-1 as Tarbert paid the price for making some elementary passing errors and the sides were level at the break (2-8 to 3-5) with Jimmy O Grady and Michael Scanlon grabbing goals.
The second half didn’t have as many thrills and spills as the opening 30 minutes, but it was a hard-fought and doggedly competitive battle, and Tarbert appeared to be in big trouble when midfielder Micheal Normile was sent off.

With a numerical advantage, Castlegregory might have been expected to take control, but that never happened as Tarbert dug deep, with Doherty proving to be unerringly accurate from placed balls, as Shea McDonnell began to make his presence felt around the middle. Tadhg Moriarty led the way for Castlegregory with some excellent points from midfield, ably assisted by the likes of Tony Kelliher and Michael Scanlon, but it was somewhat fitting that Tarbert’s only score from play in the second half came from their star man Carrig with a punched effort after a brilliant run out of defence by Danny Wren. After that, a Doherty free moved Tarbert three points clear (2-14 to 3-8) but Castlegregory kept on fighting and, despite two late scores with Maurice Slattery getting their 3rd goal in this half, they just came up short in what was a superbly entertaining confrontation.

TARBERT SCORERS: A Doherty 0-7 (frees), F Carrig 1-3, K Denihan 1-0, C Langan 0-2 (0-1 free), P Callaghan and B Heaphy 0-1 each.

Lispole 0-7 Cromane 1-8
Cromane were deserved victors in Farranfore on a perfect Saturday evening for football.
A fine Cromane goal just before the half-time, expertly converted by Sean O'Sullivan, after intricate approach work from Donnchadh Walsh and Darragh McKeefry and Mikey Houlihan, proved to be the key difference in the end.
This goal gave Cromane a 1-5 to 0-4 lead, which could have been more had a Darren Houlihan penalty with the last kick of the half not clipped the post for a wide.
As it was Cromane controlled most of the second half in what was a low-scoring game. The effort was there on both sides but the finishing wasn't up to the same standard.
Lispole's Deaglán Ó Suilleabhain was their scorer in chief and Donnacha Ó hUigín battled gamely at midfield but Cromane dominated this sector with Donnchadh Walsh and Darren Houlihan in fine form. Cromane's backline led by Conor Sugrue at full-back was excellent, denying Lios Póil any opportunity to make a realistic second-half comeback. Two second-half points from Donnchadh Walsh put to rest any ambitions the West Kerry men had of taking the points. Cromane's win meant both sides exited the Championship with Tarbert and Castlegregory qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Scorers - Cromane: Sean O’Sullivan 1-1 (0-1 free), Donnchadh Walsh 0-2, Darren Houlihan 0-2 (0-1 free), Mikey Houlihan, Emmet Casey, Darragh McKeefry 0-1 each.
Lispole: Deaglán Ó Súilleabháin 0-4 (0-3 frees), Cathal Ó Súilleabháin 0-2 (0-1 free), Maitiú Seán Ó Grifín 0-1 each.
Referee: Gerard O'Carroll (Asdee)

Tarbert and Castlegregory qualify

Tarbert 3 3 0 0 57 40 17 6
Castlegregory 3 1 1 1 58 50 8 3
Cromane 3 1 0 2 35 41 -6 2
