Greyhound racing could be banned in New Zealand from 2026.

The government says there's an "unacceptably high" level of dogs either dying or being injured from the events.

The proposal is to wind down racing and to re-home almost 3-thousand animals.

New Zealand's one of only five countries which still allows commercial greyhound racing, along with the Republic of Ireland, the United States, Australia and the UK.
