Daniel Wiffen has claimed Ireland’s first gold medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Hungary.
He set a new Irish record of 3-minutes 35-point-4-7 seconds in winning the men’s 400-metre freestyle.
Wiffen shaved nearly a second of his previous, year-old best.

Ellen Walshe took bronze in the women’s 400-metre individual medley.
