Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are among 12 clubs that have announced plans to set up a European Super League.

The six Premier League clubs will join Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus in the new project which will rival the Champions League.

Each club could earn 3 billion pounds, while the new league would be played alongside domestic competitions and could start as early as August.

The Premier League is against it, while UEFA have condemned the project and warned players involved would be banned from all other competitions at domestic, European or world level and could be prevented from representing their national teams.

FIFA has previously said it would not recognise such a competition and any players involved in it could be denied the chance to play at a World Cup.
