Despite eing scheduled for this Sunday (April 28th), Deerpark Pitch & Putt Club have decided to postpone their Scratch Cup competitions due to growth issues in relation to their greens. The club sincerely regrets any inconvenience that this may cause to those who were intending to travel to the event. A decision on whether or not the re-fixture will still be a Kerry team trial will be decided once the club confirms its new date for the competition.
At last Monday night’s County Board Meeting in Castleisland the following five competitions were also agreed as the five other trials for the Kerry team. (i) County Strokeplay- Deerpark May 12th, (ii) Tralee Scratch Cup June 9th, (iii) Munster Strokeplay Qualifiers- Castleisland June 16th, (iv) National Strokeplay Qualifiers June 23rd, (v) Castleisland Scratch Cup July 21st. Five out of the best six scores will count towards the overall total. It was agreed also to change the dates of the County Matchplay and Strokeplay competitions to avoid a clash with the staging of the Kerry vs. Tipperary Football match in Fitzgerald Stadium on May 26th. The County Matchplay will now take place on that date in Tralee with the Strokeplay reverting to Deerpark on May 12th as already mentioned.
In competitive action last weekend Conor McCarthy was the winner of the Willie Parker Memorial European Rules Singles competition in Deerpark with a score of 87 points ahead of Johnny O’Brien in second with Ger Casey the winner of the Gross prize and Paddy Murphy the 18 Nett prize-winner. Also in the First Round of the Inter-Club competition the Deerpark Inter/Junior team had a narrow 5-4 victory over their Tralee counterparts in Castleisland last Sunday afternoon. The same clubs are due to meet in the Senior Gents competition as well in due course.
