Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and aquatech-focused venture capital firm, Hatch Blue, have been running the Aquatech Innovation Studio, a two-week incubation programme for aquatech businesses, in the RDI Hub Killorglin. Over 100 applied, and eight were chosen to take part. Gearoid O’Sullivan is heading up this facility and explains what the new facilities offer and about the podcasting course.

The fourth John McCarthy AI (artificial intelligence) Summer School took place at the RDI Hub in Killorglin on September 7th and 8th. The event is named after John McCarthy, the Stanford professor who coined the term artificial intelligence, and whose father was from Cromane. The theme this year was AI for Sustainability, and academics and industry leaders from all over the world came together in person and online to discuss artificial intelligence in agriculture, transport, and carbon reduction. Mary Gallagher talked with some with some of the speakers after the event: - Joan Mulvihill, Digitalisation and Sustainability Lead at Siemens spoke about creativity and humans needing to be more human. - Ashley Shak of Dogpatch Labs discussed the 2050 Accelerator. - Founder, Eamonn Galvin explains how KnowCarbon counts a business’s carbon footprint. - Professor Vinny Cahill of Trinity College Dublin talks sustainable transport.
