Kerry TD Brendan Griffin, who's a member of the Dáil Oireachtas Media Committee, asks why RTÉ paused TV licence adverts after the hidden payments scandal broke.

That’s what Kerry Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin said to RTÉ executives during yesterday’s Oireachtas Media Committee’s hearing into financial controversies at the state broadcaster.

Jerry spoke to Patrick O’Donovan who’s minister of state the Office of Public Works about the visit he and the Taoiseach made to the Great Blasket/ An Blascaod Mór at the weekend. Jerry also asked him about reports that the TV licence will be replaced by a media levy and criticism of the Government’s plan to cut taxes in next month’s budget.

Jerry presented a special preview show from The Stables Brasserie and Bar, Sheen Falls Lodge, Kenmare. Jerry also spoke to the general manager of the Sheen Falls Lodge, Scott Andrew. Other guests on the show were Labour Party representative Bernie Linnane who believes the Rose of Tralee International Festival is anachronistic. Tomás Sheehan who is general Munster branch secretary for the Independent Workers’ Union on the closure of Iceland stores in Tralee and Listowel. Jerry also spoke to Deputy Paul Murphy of People Before Profit – Solidarity who said the TV licence should be scrapped.
