This weeks guest on Stand Out with myself Ian O’Connell is Mike O’Shea. Mike who grew up in Beaufort in Co Kerry is an Irish adventurer and safety consultant. A respected veteran of 30 years in the industry, who has worked on some of the biggest films of recent years including three Mission: Impossible films; the latest James Bond; Star Wars episode seven, eight and nine; and the new Indiana Jones film. The most recent of Mike’s works to make the big screen is ‘that’ ramp scene from the latest Mission: Impossible film, a stunt that sees the film’s star and all-round daredevil extreme, Tom Cruise, drive a motorbike, off a ramp over a 4,000-foot cliff into a base jump in Norway. Having flown traditional paragliders for many years he took up Powered paragliding in 2009 and in the same year was one of the first people to fly cross the Irish Sea with one. He also became the first person to fly the length of Ireland from Mizen Head to Malin Head in June 2014.
