In the 19th century, two remote communities on either side of the Atlantic made history when the world’s first transatlantic cable was laid between Valentia Island and Heart’s Content in Newfoundland, Canada. A delegation from Newfoundland has been in the county this week meeting with Kerry County Council and other stakeholders about the campaign to grant UNESCO World Heritage status for the Transatlantic Cable Project. Jerry spoke to Cllr Norma Moriarty and Minister Steve Crocker, head of the Newfoundland delegation.
