Over €3,000 in fines for unpaid TV licences were handed down in a single day at Tralee District Court last week. This reflects a national downturn in the numbers failing to pay their TV licence in the wake of the RTÉ hidden payments controversy last summer. The Sunday Business Post reported that the Government was considering replacing the TV licence with a levy added to broadband bills to pay for public service broadcasting.
