We hear the story of the Palatines, originally from Germany, who came to Ireland in the early 18th century as refugees, and their contribution to this county. Austin Bovenizer, chair of the Irish Palatine Association, Robert Hoffman from Annascaul, and Michael Latchford from Tralee spoke to Treasa Murphy about their connections. Johnnie Roche, chair of Castleisland District Heritage, spoke of Sylvester Poff and John Twiss, two Kerry men of Palatine descent, who were wrongfully executed in separate cases in the 19th century and who recently received presidential pardons.
