Jerry spoke to Castleisland pharmacist Jack Shanahan who’s editor of the Irish Pharmacy Union magazine, the IPU Review. An expert group has recommended that pharmacists should be able to prescribe for eight common conditions and that this should be increased over time. The eight conditions are allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the inside of the nose), cold sores, conjunctivitis, impetigo (a contagious skin condition), oral thrush, shingles, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and vulvovaginal thrush.
