The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life which is based in Turlough Park, Castlebar will host an exhibition on community midwives until next March. The exhibition is based on research by community curator Emma Laffey, a member of the Skehana and District Heritage Group in Galway and examines the role of community midwives - or ‘handy women’, primarily through the story of Mary Anne Fanning, who worked as a district midwife and nurse in Kerry and Dublin. Maryanne also provided medical aid during the 1916 Rising. Joe spoke to Emma and to Mary Anne’s grandson, Pat Fanning.: https://www.museum.ie/en-IE/Press-and-Media-Information/Latest-Media-Releases/03-October-2024-New-exhibition-celebrates-the-cont
