There’s been much discussion after a TD tweeted that “situational awareness vital and should also be taught” when a woman shared her experience online of being harassed in a park. The TD later apologised. Is this a case of double standards – that men are not expected to have ‘situational awareness’? Or is it a sad fact, that girls and women have to be more aware of potential danger given that they are physically weaker than males? Paula Dennan gives her views.
