Yesterday, a majority of TDs backed the findings of a report which recommended the legalisation of assisted dying in limited circumstances. This was the final report produced by the Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying. Its chair Michael Healy-Rae opposed the report’s recommendations. Despite a majority of TDs accepting the recommendations, this does not change the law. It will be up to the next Government after the general election to decide whether to legislate for assisted dying. Deputy Healy-Rae spoke to Jerry.
