Works to upgrade the watermains in Castleisland will get underway in the coming days.
Uisce Éireann is replacing 3kms of old waterpipes which are prone to frequent bursts and leakage in the town.
The works are expected to be completed by April next year.
Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin says Castleisland has been prioritised as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme.
He says replacing the old watermains will strengthen and reinforce the water network, significantly reducing the instances of bursts and the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
The Castleisland works will take place along the L-2032, L-2030 and the L-10693 from Castleview Road to the Ballymacadam Reservoir.
Uisce Éireann says there will be traffic management in place throughout the project in the form of traffic lights and flagmen; local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
The works will be carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd.
They may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team says it will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned disruption.
The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water supply.
Uisce Éireann can be contacted on 1800 278 278 with any questions about the project and the utility says regular updates will be shared on the water supply updates section of the Uisce Éireann website.
