Works on a problematic section of water pipe in mid-Kerry are due to get underway in the next fortnight.
The water supply in the area has seen numerous outages in recent years.
Independent Cllr Maura Healy-Rae who sought an update on the water supply in the mid-Kerry area at the monthly meeting of Killarney Municipal District said the repeated outages are completely disrupting households and businesses.
Seconding Cllr Healy-Rae's motion, Cllr Brendan Cronin, who lives in the area, said in recent times the water services team are out there three or four times a week; he described the situation as a constant nightmare and torment.
Kerry County Council says the service to Barleymount reservoir has been interrupted mainly due to bursts on the section of pipe along the Board of Works Road and from Crohane to Barleymount.
Almost 1.5 kilometres of pipe on the Board of Works Road has been replaced in recent years and in the next fortnight work will begin on replacing a further 1.2 kilometres.
The council said Irish Water is considering a request for further funding to replace more watermains at these locations.
