Water samples have been taken from twelve Kerry beaches, following recent heavy rainfall.

Prior warning notices were erected on a number of the county's beaches in recent days.

A spokesperson for Kerry County Council says these signs were put up in advance to warn that water quality might be impacted, as high rainfall was anticipated over the weekend.

These warning notices were erected at Ballybunion North and South beaches, Ballyheigue, Fenit, Castlegregory, Maharabeg, Ventry, Kells, Cuas Crom, White Strand in Cahersiveen, Ballinskelligs and Inny beach in Waterville.

A spokesperson for the council says this doesn't mean the water quality has been impacted.

The signs were erected to warn anyone visiting these beaches that the water quality might be affected due to high rainfall.
