A Kerry hotelier has called for a massive capital investment programme in our water network.
Padraig McGillicuddy, of the Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa in Tralee, has been speaking following yesterday’s water outage which affected over 50,000 homes and businesses around the county.
Mr McGillicuddy says yesterday’s water break cost the hotel €12,000.
He says they had a number of cancellations, had to buy water and close outdoor dining, the brasserie was working at 10% capacity, and their spa was severely limited.
Mr McGillicuddy says the water network is corroding under our feet.
Mr McGillicuddy says Kerry County Council and the fire service did huge work to keep water levels in affected hotels topped up for essential services throughout the day.
