Kerry County Council is meeting today with a group from Valentia and Portmagee who have raised queries about a proposed development plan for South Kerry.
Submissions may be made to the Draft Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan until November 3rd.
The final plan will help shape development in South Kerry until the end of the decade.
The current draft plan takes into account the proposal that Valentia Island be granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status as it’s the location from where the first transatlantic cable was sent.
The Valentia/Portmagee Heritage and Culturally Sensitive Areas Designation Action Group has been formed.
The group says landowners have found it difficult to acquire information on the potential impact of possible UNESCO status and the proposal in the draft plan that certain areas would be designated ACAs, architectural conservation areas.
The Valentia/Portmagee group is meeting the council in Killorglin this afternoon.
Kerry County Council says its planning department remains open to discussions with, and submissions from, individuals and organisations throughout the public consultation process and is happy to engage on such matters at any time.
