Up to €1,000 worth of goods have been bought with fake euro notes in Kerry in the last week.
Gardaí have become aware of multiple incidents around the county wherein people have used counterfeit notes to buy goods from individuals and in businesses.
These particular notes have written on them – this is not legal tender, it is to be used for motion props – and while it originated in Tralee, gardaí believe the perpetrators have moved to other parts of the county.
In one incident, a man sold his Apple Mac laptop for €400, and when he met the buyer in Castlemaine, he was handed 20 fake €20 notes, but did not notice until he had gone.
Sergeant Lynda Brosnan of Tralee garda station is asking individuals and businesses to be vigilant when handed cash.
