University Hospital Kerry spent €1,200 hiring a room to hold interviews last year, in addition to standard HSE interview costs.
This is according to information released by the hospital, following a Freedom of Information Act request about the holding of interviews at the Tralee hospital last year.
The role of a clerical officer includes providing general and administrative support to a section or department.
Last year, UHK invited applications for the role of clerical officer grade III, from which a panel of successful applicants would be formed to fill the role when needed.
315 people applied for the position and 289 interview offers were made.
UHK says the interview costs amounted to the standard HSE cost for the interview board--this amount was not stated.
In addition, a cost of €1,200 was incurred for room hire; the hospital says this was to allow for increased social distancing and infection control measures.
Following the interviews, a panel comprising 187 successful candidates was formed, which the hospital says will result in clerical officers being available to them for the lifetime of the panel.
No information was given on the expected lifetime of the panel, nor the number of staff subsequently employed by the hospital.
