University Hospital Kerry is hoping to finalise the scale of a proposed chemotherapy day unit.
The HSE, which is responsible for the delivery of public healthcare infrastructure projects, says an oncology development at UHK has been proposed by a local charity, Comfort for Chemo Kerry.
University Hospital Kerry and the HSE are working on the development of a new standalone chemotherapy day unit, which has been proposed by Comfort for Chemo Kerry.
Fianna Fáil Tralee Cllr Mikey Sheehy says at the start of COVID-19 pandemic, UHK's oncology day ward service was moved to the hospital's palliative care centre in order to protect patients.
General Manager of UHK Ferghal Grimes has since said that with the easing of restrictions, there's a need to restore services to pre-COVID levels.
UHK is now reviewing the schedule of accommodation in conjunction with the HSE in order to finalise the proposed scale of the development.
Once this is finalised and approved by the hospital, the intention is to complete a capital submission for the project.
This response was received by Councillor Mikey Sheehy from the Minster for Health, Stephen Donnelly.
