Two parks in Kerry have received international accreditation.
The 2020 Green Flag Award, which is an international benchmark standard for parks and green spaces, has been given to parks in Tralee and Listowel.
The Green Flag Award scheme aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways.
From among 15 countries whose parks met the standard this year, there were more Green Flag Awards secured by Irish parks and gardens than by any country, other than the UK where the scheme originated in 1996.
Kerry County Council has welcomed today’s announcement by An Taisce that Tralee Town Park has been awarded a Green Flag for the first time and that Childers Park and Woodlands in Listowel has retained its flag for 2020.
Mayor of Tralee, Labour Cllr Terry O’Brien says the announcement is wonderful news for Tralee, which will help to raise the profile of the park.
Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District, Fine Gael Cllr Michael Foley says the award is a recognition of the hard work of the people involved in the maintenance and upkeep of the park since its opening in 1975.
