Two Kerry men have appeared in court in connection with the seizure of almost €33 million worth of drugs last week.
43-year-old Nathan McDonnell of Ballyroe, Tralee, is accused of the possession of a controlled drug for sale or supply.
41-year-old James Leen, of Pilgrim Hill, Kilmorna, Listowel, faces two charges – possession of a controlled drug for sale of supply, and importation of a controlled drug.
Both men have been remanded in custody.
43-year-old Mr McDonnell is accused of the possession of the controlled drug, namely crystal meth, at Ballyseedy in Tralee.
Detective Sergeant Tommy Griffin from Listowel garda station said further, more serious charges are being contemplated by the DPP.
Mr McDonnell’s solicitor, Pádraig O’Connell, said he was applying for bail.
The state objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and the strength of evidence.
Judge David Waters refused bail for Mr McDonnell.
41-year-old Mr Leen entered court separately, and he is accused of possession of drugs for sale of supply, and importation of a controlled drugs.
Detective Sergeant Dave Howard said further serious charges are contemplated by the DPP.
His solicitor, Pat Mann, also applied for bail.
The state objected to bail, again citing the seriousness of the offences and the strength of evidence against them.
Judge Waters refused Mr Leen bail, and both men were remanded in custody to appear in Tralee District Court via video link on February 28th.
