There were two convictions in Tralee last year for breaching guidelines around smoky coal use.
Since September 1st, the greater Killarney area joined Tralee as a low-smoke zone, which limits the use of bituminous coal in the areas.
The EPA says the burning of smoky coal releases toxic emissions and low smoke fuel emits less black smoke than comparable fuels.
Tralee was designated a low-smoke zone over 20 years ago.
This means smoky coal cannot be sold, marketed, distributed or burned within the area.
On September 1st, the greater Killarney area became a low-smoke zone.
Kerry County Council, which has responsibility for enforcing these guidelines, says two convictions were secured in Tralee, with both coming in 2019.
