Tralee firm BioAtlantis has announced that the signing has taken place of a ground-breaking initiative that it’s involved in to create cereals resilient to climate change.
The biotechnology firm is part of the BOOSTER project funded by the European Commission.
BOOSTER aims to improve drought tolerance in maize and a cereal grain called teff which is native to the Horn of Africa.
The €4.9 million project is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme.
BioAtlantis’s work in the project will include using natural compounds, such as seaweed, in helping create climate-resilient cereals.
