Tralee Municipal District has voted to approve the redevelopment of existing traveller accommodation at Rathass, Tralee.
At a special sitting of the MD, councillors also approved safety improvement works at Banna Cross in Ardfert. Tralee councillors have given the go ahead for the redevelopment of traveller accommodation and associated site works at Rathass, Tralee.
The existing accommodation, which consists of four two and three-bedroom units, will be replaced with 4 two-bedroom units and 2 three-bedroom units.
The work will also involve the construction of new blockwork sheds, caretaker’s accommodation, bin storage area, landscaping, and all associated site works.
The redevelopment will also involve the restructuring of access to the site to Rath Oraig access road.
The relocation of access to the site was widely welcomed by councillors who said it will be much safer.
Safety Improvement Works on the R551 at Banna Cross in Ardfert was also approved by Tralee MD.
The works will include the minor realignment of the local road approach near the junction, sight distance improvements for vehicles exiting the local road, a right turn lane on the regional road and associated works.
The works were unanimously welcomed by councillors who said it would greatly improve safety at the junction.
The issue of Tralee Courthouse was also raised at the meeting. Cllr Jim Finucane called for a decision to made on the future on the Courthouse and for plans to move forward.
