Three public bodies are appealing to those travelling to Listowel for the Harvest Festival to follow COVID-19 guidelines.
An Garda Siochana, the HSE and Kerry County Council are jointly calling for people to continue following public health guidelines during the seven-day racing festival, which begins on Sunday.
The three agencies, which form part of the Inter-Agency Emergency Management Team for Cork and Kerry, are issuing the message in advance of the festival.
The gardaí say, as more pubs are due to open during the festival, they’ll be increasing inspections of licenced premises under Operation Navigation.
Anne Sheahan, acting Director of Public Health for the region, says COVID-19 is still incredibly infectious and the basic preventative measures haven’t changed.
She’s reminding the public that actions save lives and keep communities safe.
Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District Cllr Michael Foley adds there’s simply too much at stake to allow any relaxation of social distancing.
The Fine Gael councillor adds there will be a warm welcome to visitors, but he is asking all patrons to stay safe.
