The St Vincent de Paul says there's only so much it can do to help families in Kerry who are struggling to afford funeral costs for loved ones.
Paddy Kevane of St Vincent de Paul Kerry was speaking following calls by Kerry county councillor Michael Cahill for the reinstatement of the bereavement grant.
Cllr Cahill says he was contacted by people who found it very difficult to pay for a family member's funeral and says some people even had to borrow money from friends.
Paddy Kevane says the grant made life that bit more bearable for grieving families, who often don't or can't save up money for costs like funerals and burials.
He agrees that the bereavement grant should be restored, as charities such as St Vincent de Paul can only do so much to help.
