A survey has shown that a majority of parents of secondary school students feel their views were not taken into account in relation to planning the 2021 Leaving Certificate.
The survey, which was undertaken by the Catholic Secondary School Parents' Association, sought the views of parents of children in catholic secondary schools between February 24th and 26th.
The Catholic Secondary School Parents' Association is the national body for over half of all Irish secondary school parents’ associations.
Responses to the survey came from associations across the country.
While 70% of parents said they are satisfied with the proposed Leaving Certificate 2021, the survey found only 36% of parents feel that their views were taken into account.
The vast majority (in excess of 84%) of parents say they understand the proposed exam format and support the input of students to the discussions.
However, only two-thirds feel that the planned exam format is a fair process.
Just under half of those surveyed (44%) believe their own children will be awarded a fair result, while 70% are concerned that no evaluation report was forthcoming on Leaving Cert 2020 and lessons learned.
Two-thirds of parents are in favour of the exams going ahead in June.
