A newly-created community alert group in a North Kerry seaside resort is calling for a second garda due to the increase in its summer population.
The Ballyheigue Community Alert, which had its inaugural meeting last night, was created following anti-social behaviour in the seaside village, including a girl being shot with a pellet gun.
Community activist Risteárd Ó Fuaráin says the meeting was well attended by locals, caravan park owners and visiting tourists.
He says, as many people have chosen Ballyheigue as their holiday destination, the community needs a second garda during the summer months to cater for the population increase.
