It’s time for Tralee town to step up and take responsibility in organising Rose of Tralee festival events.
That’s according to Executive Chair of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Anthony O’Gara.
He was speaking after the festival announced yesterday it is discontinuing the Rose Ball, and pulling out of organising the street events for this year’s festival.
Mr O’Gara says preparations have been made for the festival this August, and plans are ready and waiting for the town to take over.
He says it’s time for the town to step up in the organisation of festival events, and rejects the claim the private company is walking away from its responsibilities.
Anthony O’Gara also says the company and festival itself does not make a profit or hand out big salaries, and estimates he earns about €20 per hour as its Executive Chair.
Kerry County Council has confirmed a family festival will go ahead in Tralee town in August.
