The RNLI is urging people in Kerry to exercise safety in the water this Bank Holiday weekend.
RNLI Water Safety Lead, Kevin Rahill, says many people will be heading to the water to enjoy themselves over the Bank Holiday, and by taking a few simple steps, everyone can reduce the risk of an accident.
He's advising people to avoid cold water shock, by acclimatising to the water slowly, and to lie on their back and gently move arms and legs if they fall in unexpectedly.
Kevin Rahill adds people should swim in a lifeguarded area, swim between flags, stay within their depth and swim parallel to the shore.
The RNLI is urging people to wear an appropriate personal flotation device for other activities, and dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard if they get into trouble or see someone else in trouble.
