It’s claimed 50% of all hospitality business will close due to the effects of COVID-19.
That’s according to Adrian Cummins, CEO of the Restaurants’ Association of Ireland, who met with TDs and ministers in the Dáil yesterday to discuss a number of issues, including VAT changes and the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme.
He claims the new scheme will cause the closure of many restaurants around the country, because it’s amounts to a 42% reduction in the subsidy for employers to keep staff.
Mr Cummins says a government report outlines the potential future facing the sector.
Adrian Cummins blames a lack of clarity for the confusion around time limits for tables spaced two metres apart in restaurants.
The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland and Fáilte Ireland guidelines state that the time limit of one hour and 45 minutes doesn’t apply if a person requests a table that’s further than two metres apart.
However, he says it’s not economically viable to have all tables two metres apart.
