A decision to refuse a 32-unit housing development close to Austin Stack Park has been appealed.

The proposed development off the R875 was refused by Kerry County Council planners.

Tulfarris CG Limited applied to demolish two houses along the main road to form a new vehicular entrance and develop the 32-dwelling development on a 0.8-hectare site at Cloon More, Boherbee.

This included two and three-bedroom houses, one bed ground floor apartments and three bed maisonettes in duplex format along with roads, footpaths and services.

Objections were made from several parties, among the concerns were traffic, noise, flooding, safety and that the development would be out-of-character.

Kerry County Council refused permission due to the proximity of the entrance to the existing pedestrian crossing and roundabout and the traffic generated especially at peak times.

Planners felt the development would endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard, would constitute disorderly, haphazard and piecemeal development and set an undesirable precedent for similar developments.

Tulfarris has appealed this decision to An Bord Pleanala, which will give its ruling by December 16th.
