A pilot project on the Dingle peninsula is moving into its final stages.
ESB Networks' Dingle Project aims to provide information and knowledge to implement changes across the national network in the future.
This pilot project, which has been ongoing for a number of years now, includes retrofitting homes and businesses with cleaner technologies, such as solar panels, air source heat pumps, smart immersion controls and electric vehicles.
It's now moving into the final stages, which involves the installation of two devices: a communications hub and a home energy monitoring device.
The energy monitoring device, which connects to the home's Wi-Fi network, will measure energy output and give the project team information on voltage and power data.
The hub will collect data from sensors in the home and make it available to users through an app, giving live, real-time information on how much power the home is generating and using.
The knowledge gained from the Dingle Project will help in the design and implementation of future works across the country.
