Dog owners in Kerry are being asked to keep their pets on leads to protect ground-nesting birds such as the curlew.

Tomorrow is World Curlew Day; the bird has seen its breeding population decline by over 90% in the past 30 years.

The Curlew Conservation Programme was established in 2017 by Lyreacrompane native, Dr Barry O'Donoghue of the National Parks & Wildlife Service, with a view to save breeding curlew from complete extinction.
