Over 150 drivers in Kerry have held a learner licence for over 20 years.
Following a Freedom of Information Act request by Newstalk, the Department of Transport released figures relating to the number of drivers nationwide with category B learner permits.
Under current rules, drivers can’t apply for a third or subsequent learner permit unless they’ve recently done a driving test or have an upcoming test.
There are 6,538 learner driver permits issued to drivers in Kerry.
Of these, the majority – over 4,200 – have been held for between one and five years.
Over 560 drivers had held a learner permit for between six and ten years, with half that number holding one for between 11-15 years.
152 drivers in Kerry have held a learner licence for over 20 years, with 21 people in Kerry holding a category B learner permit for more than 26 years.
