Opposition TDs in Kerry are calling for action from government after the announcement that all flights on the PSO Kerry-Dublin route have been cancelled.
Stobart Air has gone into liquidation, with 480 jobs affected, which the airline blames on a failed takeover and the Covid pandemic.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says it's important the route is re-established prior to the full easing of restrictions, so that business people and transatlantic tourists can access Kerry.
Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae says the future of Kerry Airport needs to be reassured to the area with action from government, as the announcement has put regional airports into big danger.
Their calls for action are echoed by the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation, while Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce has said it will do everything possible to support Kerry Airport's management, staff and customers in their quest to restore the vital Kerry-Dublin service.
