The official investigation into the cause of the Killarney National Park fire in April is nearing completion.
That's according to the National Parks and Wildlife Service, which was responding to a query from Extinction Rebellion Kerry, an environmental group.
Between 2,500 and 3,000 hectares of Killarney National Park was damaged in the fires in April, which represents almost half of the park's land area.
The NPWS says it has been liaising with An Garda Síochána, which is the lead agency in the investigation, at regional level.
The response states the NPWS has been working tirelessly to properly assess the damage to the park and deal with the long-term impact of them, through mapping and ecological surveys.
