The incoming president of Macra na Feirme says agri-environmental schemes must become more user friendly.
John Keane, a dairy and beef farmer from Laois will officially take up his new role at the Macra AGM this week.
The organisation has raised concerns about the uptake of environmental schemes among young farmers.

John Keane says they have asked for results-based schemes and for recognition of the role played by farmers in protecting the environment.
He told Agritime there is a willingness among farmers to take part in such schemes:
