It's crucial that a new marine planning bill is enacted this year for the development of Moneypoint.
That's the view of Pat Keating, Chief Executive of Shannon Foynes Port Company.
Last week, the ESB launched a plan to develop a major renewable energies hub off the Kerry and Clare coasts, which will include converting the existing power station at Moneypoint.
Pat Keating says the new Marine Planning and Development Management Bill, which evolved from the Maritime Area and Foreshore Amendment Bill, will improve the current archaic planning consent process.
He adds jobs will be created in every county on the Shannon Estuary, Kerry, Clare and Limerick, but the new bill must be enacted.
