New car sales in Kerry have fallen by a fifth in the first eight months of the year.
The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) says up to the end of August, 1,759 new cars were sold in Kerry compared to 2,202 in the same period last year.
Light commercial vehicle sales fell 10% from 569 last year to 512.
There's been a 45% fall in heavy commercial vehicle sales in Kerry from 57 to 31.
SIMI is calling for a significant reduction in Vehicle Registration Tax, adding if something isn't done, new car sales will continue at recession levels due to Brexit and COVID-19.
