Negotiations with Kerry County Council staff are continuing at the Workplace Relations Commission.
In April 2019, the council said it was in negotiations with staff in its machinery yard about reorganising work practices and investing in new equipment.
At its April 2019 meeting, Kerry County Council said the cost of the machinery yard had risen in previous years due to an increase in road grants.
In 2018, the operating costs of the yard were nearly €4.2 million, which included €2.7 million in wages, €660,000 for repair and maintenance, and €196,000 was categorised as miscellaneous.
The vast majority of council machinery is pre-2005, with most costing in excess of €10,000 per year in maintenance.
The council has carried out a number of reviews of the yard, which examined the sustainable operation of the service.
In April 2019, it was in negotiations with staff in relation to the reorganisation of current work practices and investment in new equipment.
These negotiations between the council and machinery yard staff are still with the Workplace Relations Commission.
