150 handlers and their sheepdogs will battle it out over the coming days in Killarney.
The Irish National Sheepdog Trials begin today on the lands of the Europe Hotel and Resort in Fossa and will run until Saturday evening; it's the first time the event has been held in Kerry.
15 people will be selected to represent Ireland at the international championships in Wales in September.
500 people will be allowed into the event at any one time, given current public health restrictions; the event is also being live streamed around the world.
Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Marie Moloney said the opportunity to watch the best handlers and dogs in action is not to be missed.
Cllr Moloney paid tribute to the committee who brought the event to Killarney, which is chaired by Tom O'Sullivan from Kilcummin.
