Wild boars have been roaming Mount Eagle in Cordal near Castleisland.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service says it's currently dealing with the situation in Knockatee, Cordal which is a popular walking location.

A listener who contacted Radio Kerry says the animals have been in the area since at least Saturday.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service says its policy is to remove wild boar from the wild as they are invasive, non-native species and that it's illegal to release such animals into the wild.

The NPWS says they pose a serious risk to agriculture and in particular to cows and pigs as they can carry and spread diseases including blue tongue and African swine flu.

Cllr Charlie Farrelly was notified by constituents about the animals who saw them roaming on a public road in Knockatee, Cordal. He says it's a scenic forested area, popular with walkers.

Photographs sent to Radio Kerry show seven boars - it's not known how the animals found their way to the Mount Eagle area.
