Munster Technological University will not benefit from the thousands of extra college places set to be approved by Cabinet today.
The Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris is seeking €24 million to fund 4,600 extra college places, to meet a significant increase in demand.
The demand is driven by more applications from mature students, an increase in applicants from the EU and pent-up demand from last year.
However, MTU did not seek any additional places under the initiative.
The university says it has sufficient capacity across its eligible programmes to accommodate additional students.
It says courses which may see more demand, like nursing, medicine and social care, are ineligible for additional places due to restrictions on placements.
