Kerry Airport and Ryanair need to sit down and work on making the Kerry-Dublin route work on a commercial level.

That’s the view of Minister for Education and Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley, who says the connectivity this route provides is vitally important to the region.

Minister Foley says the flight times need to meet the demand of the consumer to ensure the route is a success.

She feels it’s important the cost base of Kerry Airport is protected.

Tourism and businesses in the county have expressed concern about Ryanair's intention to operate the service without the public service obligation subsidy.

The Minister for Education says her department is constantly engaging with public health about schools' reopening in late August and September.

She says engagement between the department, public health and schools is ongoing throughout the summer break.

Minister Foley says all measures are being put in place to ensure schools can operate safely in the autumn.
